A COMPETITION which names the city’s most influential people is accepting applications for its 2019 list.

The Brighton Power 100 includes business people, community leaders, sports personalities, politicians and celebrities who hold power in the city.

Last year’s list saw Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, who is from Rottingdean, take the top spot, followed – rather bizarrely – by former Oasis member Noel Gallagher and then Albion chairman Tony Bloom.

Several politicians also made the list including Brighton Pavilion Green MP Caroline Lucas at number four, former mayor Councillor Dee Simson at number 11 and Councillor Robert Nemeth, who sits in the Wish ward, at 92.

There were some noteworthy exceptions including former professional boxer Chris Eubank and his son, Chris Eubank Jr, who currently holds the IBO super-middleweight title in the sport.

A spokesman for the Brighton Power 100 said: “This is an annual list of the 100 most influential people in Brighton. The aim of the list is to identify who the movers and shakers in the city are.”

Anyone who “lives, works in or conducts business in Brighton and Hove” can apply for the list but judges will “consider applicants who don’t meet the residential requirements if they can demonstrate ‘reasonable’ influence in and around Brighton”.
