THE 52-year-old man arrested in connection with a cat death in Brighton has been bailed again.

The man was arrested on Sunday, June 2 after a cat was found “seriously injured” near Queens Road, Brighton, two days before.

The cat later died of its injuries.

Police investigated the incident and were able to find CCTV footage of the area.

After seeing this, the 52-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of “criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place”.

He was released on police bail until June 28.

He was then re-bailed until August 21.

Now, police have said he has been re-bailed again until September 11.

The Argus has previously reported on the death of 25 cats in the city.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact Sussex Police either online or by calling 101 and quoting Operation Diverge.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "A 52-year-old man arrested in connection with cat deaths in Brighton has been re-bailed until September 11 for further enquiries.

"We are committed to this complex investigation, seeking answers as to how these cats died.

"We are following a number of different lines of enquiry, working closely with our colleagues at the Crown Prosecution Service in an effort to achieve justice for the owners of the cats."
