PLANS to build an 85-bed care home are to go before planners next week.

The application is to demolish a property in Kings Drive, Eastbourne, and build the home in its place.

It would have a cafe, cinema room, function room and outdoor seating.

The application, which is recommended for approval, also seeks permission to close the existing access via Kings Drive and create a new entrance via Decoy Drive.

There have been 37 letters of objection from residents with concerns about parking, traffic, the impact on neighbours and the ecological impact.

Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd has also opposed it with similar fears.

But an Eastborne Borough Council planning spokesman said: “The proposed development would represent a suitable use of the site and seeks to maximise its development potential.”

He said the design and layout was appropriate and there would be “no material impact”

on the amenities of neighbours.

He added: “The development also ensures that the overall character and appearance of the surrounding area and the integrity of the local wildlife site is maintained and safeguarded.”
