I READ that there has been another incident involving an unsafe iron balcony in Brighton.
Many of these balconies were installed in the mid 1960s to link two houses as a means of escaping a fire.
I worked on many of them at the time.

My point is that 50 odd years later that many of them have not been painted underneath for a number of years, so even if it looks sound on the top, please don’t trust it.
The rule is rust never sleeps.
I hope the lady who was injured recovers soon, but please let’s make this the last time someone treads out on a dodgy balcony or even puts a heavy plant tub on it.
