A DRINK driver was filmed veering from side to side while more than three times over the legal limit.

Dash cam footage showed the van driver on the M23 near Crawley in June.

Motorists reported seeing the driver driving almost entirely on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

Now police have released the footage to warn people of the dangers of drink driving.

Konrad Krzywonos, 39, was stopped by officers shortly afterwards.

The plumber, of Comptons Court, Horsham, failed a roadside breath test.

He was charged, and tested positive for 124 micogrammes (mcg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres (ml) of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court Krzywonos was given an eight-week suspended prison sentence.

He was banned from driving for two and a half years and must pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Roads policing unit Police Sergeant Vicki Rees said: “The manner of driving evidenced in this video falls far below the expected standard of a competent driver.

“By getting behind the wheel while over the drink-drive limit, Krzywonos took a significant risk – not only did he pose a real risk to himself that day, he also posed a risk to all other road users.

“Drink and drug-driving is hugely irresponsible, and unfortunately we see all too often how it destroys lives on roads in Sussex.”
