CONGRATULATIONS on the double page spread in Saturday’s Argus, which was an informed and no-nonsense piece about Brighton’s housing crisis, something that will only get worse unless action is taken.

Particularly impressive was the contribution by Hugh Dennis, founder of the not-for-profit organisation Little Ships identifying potential building sites.

Local Liberal Democrats have already prompted the council to take some action over the huge town centre derelict site in Church Street owned by Hargreaves.

On the other side of the road there is another candidate for council action. The building occupied by the Royal Mail Parcel Collection Office.

It is a disgrace. Some of the rubbish in the frontage area which lies on the main tourist route to the Royal Pavilion has been there for many years with no attempt made by the owners to clear it up.

North Laine Community Association has offered to paint out the graffiti without even the courtesy of a response from Royal Mail Ltd.

This large building could be converted into flats without affecting the existing parcel office on the ground floor.

If they purchased the building, Brighton and Hove City Council could benefit from the rents and the community charge while providing some much-needed social housing in the centre of the city.

Go on Brighton and Hove City Council, put in an offer.
