I AM AN avid reader of The Argus, my wife more so.

Reading The Argus recently I saw a picture whereby some morons have so-called “painted the terraces and the seafront lift”.

Surely they must know just how much it is going to cost the Brighton council tax payers to put right again. Thousands and thousands of pounds.

We don’t want these graffiti idiots to add to the costs.

Many years ago, as a young Brighton police officer, one of the duties of the seafront policeman was to patrol these terraces at night.

You would shine your touch around and pick up dozens of eyes looking at you on the terrace. Rats, dozens of them. The first time it made you jump.

I have been very lucky in my lifetime to have visited a large number of different countries and I must admit that sadly this country is the dirtiest in Europe.

I have recently come back from Finland and the Arctic Circle. There wasn’t a scrap of paper laying about anywhere.

People were putting empty bags in their handbags ready to take home. Why can’t people do that in this country, is it just too difficult to work out?

Come on people, just get a grip and take your rubbish home with you, please?

There have been umpteen attempts at making the city clean and each one has failed miserably. We must try a lot harder.

Also let’s catch these so-called painters and make them clean it up.

If you want to see some good paintings, I suggest you go to Belfast and see the wonderful murals. That is art my friends.
