A BAKER appeared in court after maggots were found in bread on the shelves.
Nigel Harris admitted breaching food safety rules at the Home Bakery in Oakfield Road, East Wittering.
The businessman appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court.
Documents reveal that he had “placed on the market food which was contaminated and infested with maggots making it unsafe for human consumption”.
He had also failed to protect the food from this contamination.
The food was deemed “injurious to health”.
District Judge Amanda Kelly ordered Harris, of Oakfield Road, to pay an £800 fine.
Harris was also ordered to pay £2,590 court costs brought by Chichester District Council, and must also pay a £80 surcharge.
