A LARGE group of travellers have parked up at a public field.

Several motorhomes and caravans have been pictured in Martello Field, Seaford.

A resident said she saw "a dozen or so caravans” as she was driving home at 4pm.

She said: "I’m absolutely livid. I haven’t seen any wrongdoing or anything.

"But they’ve just been turned out of one place and now they’ve parked up in another."

It has not been confirmed if this is the same group which was moved on from Hove Lawns earlier today.

A large number of the travellers visited the Kings Head Pub in Seaford last night and caused both a disturbance and criminal damage. Police were called.

Seaford Town Council has now issued a statement on the group.

A spokesman said: "We are aware that a large group of travellers have entered the Martello Fields without permission.

"The Town Council took the precaution of checking all the locks on the fields this morning and photographed them all as being fully locked.

"Criminal damage has therefore been reported to the police.

"But, to enable the Town Council to evict the trespassers as soon as possible, residents are asked to report any criminal or antisocial activity from the site direct to the police.

"Photographs and videos are particularly useful.

"Once sufficient criminal activity has been recorded it is possible to evict them expeditiously.

"You can report any incidents on 101 or via the link below. Please share this post to ensure maximum coverage."

This follows a group of travellers being moved on from Hove Lawns by police this afternoon.

Witnesses were shocked when the group of more than 30 motorhomes hurtled onto Hove Lawns on Saturday.

After two days at the site, which they were reportedly visiting for a funeral, the travellers were moved on by Sussex Police earlier this afternoon.

There were concerns for the cleanliness of the lawns after a number of plastic bags and bottles were seen strewn across the grass yesterday.

But one person who watched the force escort the group off the site said they saw the group "tidying up after themselves" before leaving.

The Argus:

Another described the area as "miraculously clean".

But several items were left behind including a mountain bike with one wheel missing, a pair of underpants, a broom's brush and a pair of odd socks.

The Argus:

The group has also left a series of tyre tracks on the lawns where their vehicles have been parked.
