POLICE were called to a pub last night after a large group of travellers caused a disturbance and criminal damage.

A witness said she saw "about 200" members of the group in the Kings Head pub in Seaford and added that they were "worried by the number of them in there".

The Argus:

This follows a great number of motorhomes and caravans moving onto Martello Field in Seaford yesterday evening.

Police say it is believed this is linked to the large traveller camp which was moved on from Hove Lawns yesterday afternoon after occupying the site for two days.

The Argus:

A total of 25 vans remained on the field this morning.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Police were called after reports that a large group of travellers were causing a disturbance in a pub in Pelham Road, Seaford, at 9pm on Monday.

"Officers attended, spoke to the group and monitored the situation before the group left the pub at about 11.30pm.

"There was one offence of criminal damage reported in the pub.

"The group returned to Martello Fields, Seaford, where they arrived with vehicles on Monday afternoon.

The Argus:

"The police had visited the site earlier which is owned by Seaford Town Council and will carry out a joint assessment visit with the council this morning.

"This is required by Home Office guidance before any enforcement action can be taken.

"Some of the travellers are believed to be those who were moved on from Hove Lawns on Monday.

"Meanwhile local prevention officers patrolled in the area overnight."
