A QUARTER of a tonne of dangerous skin-lightening cream has been seized at Gatwick Airport.
The cosmetics were seized by UK Border Force after they arrived on a flight from Cameroon last month.
West Sussex Trading Standards officers tested them and found three products contained the potentially cancer-causing substance hydroquinone.
Team manager Peter Aston said this was the second seizure of illegal creams from Cameroon this year.
“We are actively engaged in border controls which includes identifying consignments for importers who have previously imported unsafe or non-compliant goods before,” he said.
West Sussex county councillor Deborah Urquhart said the cosmetics could be “very harmful” if used.
