A 30-YEAR-OLD Volvo lorry is set to sell for more than £1million - after legendary artist Banksy used it as a canvas.

The graffiti-covered 1988 FL6 truck is expected to fetch a huge sum at auction next month - making it one of the most expensive lorries ever.

Initially sprayed by the elusive creator under spotlights at a millennium party in Spain, the 17-tonne vehicle was then completed by hand over the next two weeks.

It toured Europe and South America in the years that followed while owned by a pyrotechnics company.

Now being sold by auction house Bonhams, it is described as ‘both a prodigious work of art and a noteworthy vehicle with an incredible story’.

The blurb continues: “Awash with images of anarchy and unruly subjects, Turbo Zone Truck wonderfully illustrates a variety of Banksy’s most prominent and sought-after characters, from the winged monkeys and SWAT teams, to the short lyrics that decorate the lorry’s side.

“Icons that have appeared in many iterations throughout Banksy’s career - on buildings, canvases and editions - the present Volvo FL6 features what are believed to be some of the first emergences of these images and words that are so characteristic of his practice.”

The lorry has been signed twice in stencil by Banksy and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The guide price is between £1M and £1.5M.

A used Volvo lorry would likely cost a buyer a few thousand pounds - if that.

The item goes on sale on September 14 at Goodwood Revival, the three-day event held in Chichester.

It’s not the only Banksy set to go on sale next month.

Auction house Christie’s is hosting an online auction featuring more than 30 Banksy prints. A screenprint of other work is expected to fetch £12,000 to £18,000, while an artist proof of Girl with Balloon could fetch £70,000.
