A DANCE organisation is one step closer to building a new performing space.

Brighton arts charity South East Dance has announced a £95,000 funding boost for its Dance Space in the new Circus Street development.

The group is now close to its £6.6 million target.

The building will include solar panels and will be energy efficient and low on CO2 emissions.

The South East has one of the largest dance communities in the country – about 20 per cent of the total number of dance artists in the UK.

Many are forced to travel elsewhere for work, but the new centre is set to change that.

When it opens in the summer of 2020, it will boast three state-of-the-art studios and a double-height performance space.

It will be the first new publicly funded arts building to open in Sussex in over a decade.
