A TEENAGE lifesaver has been nominated for an international award.
Proud member of the RNLI Shoreham Crew Isobel Tugwell joined the team while studying for A Levels – aged just 17.
Now the 19-year-old, described as a “brave, inspirational and determined young lady” has been nominated for an International Maritime Rescue Federation award.
Isobel said: “Being part of the crew is like being part of a second family
“I am one of three women crew members at Shoreham but we all feel like one team.
“I would encourage any woman who is interested to join the family and have a go.”
Isobel received three A* grades in her exams – despite leaving lessons to join the crew in sea emergencies whenever her pager went off
Her first lifeboat call was to rescue a man in the water following a suicide attempt.
The lifeboat crew found him and took him ashore to safety.
Since then she has attended broken down boats, people in distress in the water, searches for casualties and attempted suicides.
