A DISTRAUGHT pet owner has called for action after her dog was attacked by another at a public park.

She was walking her dog at Withdean Park’s “Puppy Park” in Brighton when the horror happened. Her pet later died.

The dog owner, who did not wish to be named, said: “Last Sunday my dog was savagely attacked by an unleashed pointer dog.

“Its owners were suitably horrified when I picked a lifeless Maya up to look at the damage.”

Maya was left with severe bruising on her internal organs and struggled to breathe. She was taken to a vet but died the following day.

Her owner shared the news on social media and said: “It’s with a mega heavy heart and tears streaming down my cheeks that I have to announce that Maya died an hour ago from her horrific internal injuries.

“Her lungs haemorrhaged and her heart stopped beating as a result. The vets did everything they could but I am inconsolable.”

The Puppy Park is a fenced compound built by residents who use Withdean Park.

The dog’s owner said: “I now want to do something so that they put some warning signs everywhere around the Puppy Park warning people about the dangers of untrained dogs and asking people to keep their dog on the lead if their dog is untrained as there has been a death already.”

Brighton and Hove City Council was asked for a comment.
