A WHISTLEBLOWER has released photos and videos which allegedly show the "disgusting" conditions at a Hula Hoops snack factory.

Photos and videos shared on Twitter show piles of the snack lying on the floor as well as surfaces covered in what appears to be a black dust.

A source claimed the "filthy" factory in Leicestershire was "rarely" cleaned and machines, floors and walls were covered in a sticky, tar-like goo, the Daily Star reports.

The source added that Hula Hoops which fall off conveyor belts and land on the floor aren't cleaned up for months and the goo covering machines is a mixture of black dust and fat from the fryers inside a plant where temperatures hover close to 40C.

They told the website: "It’s disgusting for a food factory.

“The environment is filthy.

"It is horrible.

"The machines run 24/7 so it’s hard for them to clean if they never stop."

Snack maker KP Snacks said the factory is "regularly audited" and is investigating the allegations.

A spokesman for the group said: “We take food safety and hygiene very seriously and care passionately about the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.

"Our Ashby factory is regularly audited both internally and by BRC Global Standards and our customers.

"All of these audits are always unannounced and have not identified any major issues.

"In the last week we have hosted three separate audits by our retail customers at our Ashby site, all of which approved the site for continued production."
