POLICE are searching for witnesses after a woman was raped on the weekend.
A 26-year-old woman was approached by a man in near the Splash Point building site in New Parade on Worthing seafront shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday.
He initally asked for directions but then took her to the beach and raped her before escaping on foot.
The woman sought help from a passerby and the police were informed.
She is now receiving support from specialist officers.
Detective Sergeant Ed Bohnet said it was an "isolated incident".
"It is essential that we identify and trace this man," he said.
"If you were in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or if you have any other information that might help, please contact us online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Neston."
