COUNCIL chiefs say diners are not at risk after investigating a takeaway following a complaint about a wasp.

Brighton and Hove City Council’s food safety team visited AA Charcoal Grill in Lewes Road and found no wasps.

It followed fears raised by a customer who had found a dead wasp in a kebab. But the council experts say they are happy with pest control at the takeaway and have said there is no need for further action.

The business has been run by Murat Akin and has been operating for 30 years.

Last month he agreed to refund the customer over the concerns over the wasp which was found.

But he said it was not fully clear whether the wasp had entered the food at the takeaway, outside, or elsewhere.

An email from a council officer to Mr Akin, seen by The Argus, read: “This is email is to confirm that I have discussed a complaint about an alleged wasp in food delivered by AA Charcoal Grill to a customer.

“I did not see any wasps during my visit and you had a working Electric Insect Killer in operation.

“I did not see any wasp nests on the exterior of the building and your bins were in a tidy order.

“I cannot prove beyond reasonable doubt that the wasps in the food was caused by your business.

“I will not be taking any further action in relation to this complaint.”

Mr Akin said: “I am glad to confirm that there was no evidence of wasps as alleged by a customer.”

A council spokesman said: ““The food safety team has investigated the matter and is happy with the pest control measures at the establishment.

“As there is no fault or issue which would give cause for concern or be a risk to customers in the future it is felt there is no need for further action.”
