A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of a cyclist killed in a car crash.
Construction worker Mathew Gardiner, 34, of Preston Road, Bexhill, was arrested and charged yesterday with causing death by dangerous driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Antoney Colley was cycling along the Combe Valley Way near Bexhill when he was struck by a blue Vauxhall Astra on the 26 May.
The 53-year-old night security officer, who lived in Sewell Avenue, Bexhill, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family described him as “one of a kind”, saying: “Antoney was a wonderful husband, step-dad and step-grandad, and he took pride in talking about his family, especially his grandchildren.
“We have a gaping hole that can never be filled since he was so tragically taken from us. He will live on in our hearts forever.”
Gardiner has been released on conditional bail and will appear before Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 16 October.
