A CARELESS pensioner killed a motorcyclist who was in full view without an obstruction.

Ronald Feakes admitted causing the death of Graham Howard on the A259 at Seaford.

The 85-year-old appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court last month where it was revealed he had performed a manoeuvre in his Toyota without checking twice. Court documents state that Feakes drove without due care and attention.

He was given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to complete unpaid community service. District Judge Tessa Szagun was told that Mr Howard was “in full view, with no obstruction, there was no reason for not seeing the motorcyclist”.

The incident happened in Newhaven Road, Seaford, in September last year.

Feakes, of West Hill Road, Ryde, on the Isle of Wight, must complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

He was given a 24-week suspended prison sentence, and must pay a £115 surcharge and £150 court costs.

The judge banned Feakes from driving for 18 months.
