THE fire service is tackling a 'huge' fire at a block of flats.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We are currently in attendance at a fire in a residential property on Pankhurst Avenue, Brighton.
"Firefighters from Brighton, Roedean, Lewes, Hove and Barcombe are on scene.
"We are advising all nearby residents to close their windows and doors as a precaution."
A passerby said: "It's a huge fire. The building is well alight."
At 9.33pm there was this update from the fire service: "We are still tackling a large fire at a residential block of flats on Pankhurst Road, Brighton. We now have ten appliances in attendance. We are advising all nearby residents to close windows and doors."
Residents can see the fire from all around the area.
