POLICE are investigating reports of hate crimes at a women's rights meeting.

Yesterday The Argus reported on a crowd of protesters from activist group Queer AF Brighton picketing a meeting of Woman's Place UK - a group which “defends women’s rights” - for several hours on Monday evening.

The Argus:

The group banged on the windows and chanted outside the Black and Minority Ethnic Community Partnership Centre in Fleet Street, Brighton, to disrupt the meeting which was taking place inside.

Police were at the scene and were seen standing between the protesters and the building by a passerby.

Yesterday police said there were no reports of crime, no arrests and no criminal damage.

But they later released a statement saying they had received complaints about the meeting.

The Argus:

A spokesman said: "We've received complaints around the Women's Place UK protest in Brighton that have been passed to an investigation team to assess if any actions amount to criminality and if they should be recorded as hate crimes.

"If you wish to report a crime you may do so online."
