TWO universities have been named as the most friendly in the country for vegans.

The University of Brighton and University of Sussex are on a shortlist of 20 drawn up by animal rights group Peta.

Director Elisa Allen said both universities had plenty of plant-based food options on campus and promoted vegan diets.

She said: “Students in the UK are going vegan in huge numbers and it’s great to see universities joining the revolution.

“Peta commends the universities of Brighton and Sussex for offering healthy and delicious vegan food options that everyone can enjoy.”

The group claimed 200 animals a year are “spared” for every person who switches to a vegan diet.

It also said vegans have “significantly lower” carbon footprints than meat-eaters and have a lower chance of suffering from heart disease, diabetes and strokes.
