POLICE have appealed for information to track down a group who crossed the channel in inflatable boats then disappeared.

The group were spotted landing on the beach in Hastings this morning.

Two boats were spotted, one at Hastings, and one further along the coast at Winchelsea, police say.

It is understood that as many as 17 people, including men, women, and children, were detained by immigration officials.

Two of the group needed medical treatment from the voyage, and it comes as stormy seas are forecast along the coast this week.

But a “few others” who landed at Winchelsea are thought to have “disappeared” into the countryside, officers said.

Detective Inspector Jon Gillings said the group may appear to be cold, wet, and disorientated after crossing from France.

He said: “Two of those detained required medical treatment and we are concerned that one or two others still outstanding may also be in need of assistance.”

Anyone who spots those who are missing should call 999 and report it to the police, quoting serial 276 of 03/10.
