A CARE home has been told it must improve its performance after undergoing its first inspection from a health watchdog.

The Haven, in Ambleside Avenue, Telscombe Cliffs, was visited by inspectors from the Car Quality Commission from July 11 to July16 this year.

They found the home required improvement in three out of five of the categories which are used to rate health services.

The Peacehaven home offers nursing and residential care, as well as care for young people with physical disabilities.

The report stated that: “Some medicines were not managed safely.

“Guidelines to support people to take ‘as required’ medicines when they should, were not available.

“The provider could not be assured that people received these medicines as prescribed in a safe way.”

Inspectors also found the service was not always safe or effective.

Staff told inspectors they had not always received support after incidents that had caused them distress and, in some cases, physical harm.

They also found the service was not always well-led as it had no registered manager in post.

Governance systems had not been fully established.

They did find, however, that the service was caring – meaning people in its care were treated with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

And that it was responsive – meaning it looked after people’s needs.
