POLICE have told worried residents that a recurring graffiti tag is not “sinister”.

Officers launched an appeal on September 29 asking people in Brighton and Hove who had been targeted with the distinctive symbol, a semi circle with five lines by the side of it, to report it to the force.

A police spokesman said: “Have you been the victim of this tag on your house? If you have, please contact us.

“Equally if you were responsible get in touch, we can chat.”

But the appeal left some residents worried about the meaning of the tag. So on Friday the force launched an update on the graffiti saying it was nothing to worry about.

A spokesman said: “Today we were out looking at more incidents of graffiti. Just to reassure people this is an idiot with a spray can rather than anything more sinister.”
