MORE than 100 new police officers will be recruited to the force, the Government has revealed.
Home Office figures show Sussex Police will gain the new PCs as part of the £750 million nationwide plan.
In total 129 officers will be recruited before March 2021. This is on top of the recruitment of 250 officers and staff and 100 PCSOs set to join the force after the rise in the police council tax precepts.
Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said residents will welcome the new officers to strengthen policing and said the PCs will provide a “deterrent in our communities”.
She said: “Sussex will be able to recruit 129 officers over the next 18 months.
“This is on top of the 250 extra police officers that Sussex Police have already started recruiting over the next four years.
“It is great news and means that Sussex Police numbers will have risen by 379.”
