A BRIGHTON man has been charged over an assault on left-wing journalist Owen Jones.

The Met police said James Healy, 39, from Portsmouth; Liam Tracey, 34, from Camden, London; and Charlie Ambrose, 29, from Brighton, had been charged with actual bodily harm and affray.

Jones, 35, said he had been celebrating his birthday with friends when he was attacked at around 2am outside a pub in Islington on August 17.

The three men will appear at Highbury Corner magistrates court on November 6.

Met Police detectives previously said they were investigating whether the attack was a hate crime.

Guardian editor Katherine Viner previously condemned the attack.

She said: "At the Guardian we deplore the outrageous attack on Owen Jones.

"Violent assaults on journalists or activists have no place in a democratic society."
