THE life of a much-loved equality campaigner will be celebrated with a colourful event.

Veteran Brighton activist James Ledward, who edited and published LGBT magazine Gscene, died last week at the age of 65.

The magazine has announced a funeral and celebration of his life will be held at St Mary’s Church in St James’s Street, Brighton, at midday next Saturday.

It told people “the dress code is colourful” and said James had requested no flowers.

There will be a cortege starting at 11.40am which will make its way through St James’s Street towards the church.

The magazine said: “We hope as many people as possible can be in attendance to give James the community send-off he deserves.”

A fundraiser has been set up in memory of Mr Ledward with all donations going to The Brighton Rainbow Fund which he set up ten years ago to support LGBT organisations and support groups.

The JustGiving page, called In memory of James Ledward, has already raised almost £600.
