A VEGAN activist is set to challenge a conviction for spitting at a woman at a railway station.

Dylan Roffey, 24, was sentenced last month for the assault on Rhiannon Boyle at Brighton station.

Ms Roffey denied that she had spat at Ms Boyle.

She said she approached Ms Boyle over a coat she believed was lined with fur, and said the discussion was friendly, before walking away.

But Judge Amanda Kelly said she found the evidence offered by Ms Boyle and her friend as “compelling”.

Ms Roffey, of Terminus Road, Brighton, was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

At Hove Crown Court yesterday she lodged an appeal against the conviction.

The case is set to be heard on November 15.
