SAFFRON Barker is on the crest of a wave after her performance on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old from Rottingdean danced to her grandmother Ivy’s favourite song, Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion.

Following her barefooted performance with professional partner AJ Pritchard, the YouTube star rushed to embrace her grandparents who were sitting proudly in the audience.

Saffron – along with many of those watching – was overcome with emotion after her “couple’s choice” contemporary routine.

And she was further taken aback by her scores – an impressive 33, including two nines from Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli, which put her third on the leader board.

Head judge Shirley said: “You created beautiful memories for millions of people out there, you executed it for your nanny.

“Every core of your body was into balancing, there really was a strong connection.”

Before her performance Saffron said: “The song is actually my nan’s favourite.

“It means so much to her and she loves the lyrics.

“It’s like a milestone for our family really.

“It was played as my mum’s wedding song and at my grandparents’ anniversary party.”

Appearing on This Morning last week, Saffron joked that her nan, Ivy, was “already crying every week”.

Before the show she tweeted a picture of her grandparents in her dressing room ahead of Saturday night’s filming.

She said: “Look who’s here.”

After the show she said she was: “Just so overwhelmed. Thank you, Thank you.”

But there was also Strictly controversy after the results of the dreaded dance-off were leaked ahead of last night’s elimination show.

Fans took to Twitter to express shock and disappointment.
