ALMOST a third of homes can be bought without paying stamp duty if you are a first-time buyer.
Figures from property website Zoopla show residents looking for their first home would not have to pay the tax on 33.1 per cent of houses in Brighton.
First-time buyers do not have to pay stamp duty if they purchase a home for less than £300,000.
On a typical home worth £400,000, a first-time buyer would have to pay £5,000 stamp duty.
Zoopla warned: “If you have ever owned a property, or part of one, you will not qualify for the tax break.”
