WORK has begun on the this year’s Royal Pavilion Ice Rink.

The Brighton ice skating venue, now in its tenth year, will open between November 2 and January 19.

Organisers say the 2880 square foot ice rink will be exclusively powered by wind and solar energy.

Creator of the venue, Shella Parkin, said: “We’re passionate about skaters being able to bring in the festive season with us without it costing the environment.

“That’s why this year we have gone the extra mile to ensure that we minimise our impact, using clean energy to power our rink, supporting Sussex Wildlife Trust to plant thousands of trees, and delivering the highest possible performance in terms of energy efficiency and minimising carbon emissions,”

The LED- lit venue will also have a 425 foot “beginners rink” for those who are still finding their feet on the ice.

Spectators will be able to watch skaters from a cosy rink-side bar.

Tickets cost from £10 for those aged 12 and over and £7 for juniors aged under 12.

Children under five can skate for free in all off-peak sessions when accompanied on the ice by an adult paying full price.

The 130 seater restaurant offers a selection of bar snacks including “Dirty Fries”, hearty burgers, pizzas, cassoulet and a “huge range” of vegetarian and vegan options.

The bar offerings include local ale and a range of craft beers together with mulled and ginger wine.

The one-hour skate times will run from 10am to 9.15pm daily. Fore more information head to www.royalpavilionicerink.co.uk.
