A MAN admitted breaking in to people’s cars to steal.

Paul Tully targeted vehicles in Alexander Close, Bognor last month.

The 36-year-old was caught on CCTV from homes in the area, allowing police to assess the evidence and arrest him.

At Worthing Magistrates’ Court he admitted theft from a motor vehicle and two counts of vehicle interference.

Tully, of Ash Grove, Bognor, was sent to prison for 42 weeks for admitting the offences.

The reports were lodged with the police on September 22 in the area.

Items were stolen from three cars.

Chief Inspector Jon Carter said: “We welcome the sentence given to Tully by the courts and hope this provides a stark warning to others who may be involved in this behaviour that we will catch you.

“We understand the wider impact this has been having on the community and you have my word that we are dedicated to robustly tackle this behaviour.

“Officers have been conducting high visibility patrols in hot spot areas which have been targeted by this criminality.”

Chief Insp Carter praised the public for reporting suspicious behaviour and said information handed in was vital for the conviction.

He added: “Please continue to report suspicious behaviour to us, in particular if you have been a victim.”
