Emergency gas works causing traffic chaos and long delays on the A26 and A27
EMERGENCY gas works are causing severe delays in several busy roads.
Drivers have reported delays of more than 40 minutes and there are miles of tailbacks in the Lewes area.
An AA spokesman said: "There is queueing traffic for three miles due to emergency repairs on the A26 Malling Street both ways at the A2029.
"Congestion stretches to the Isfield southbound and to the Southern Roundabout northbound.
"The travel time is about 25 to 30 minutes."
He added that there was slow traffic in the adjoining A27, south of Lewes, and warned drivers to expect severe delays.
