WHAT do you think about loved-up couples showing their affections in public?

That was the question that has sparked a fierce online debate after Brighton’s Gogglebox regular Stephen Webb revealed it was one of his pet hates.

Viewers tuned in to the Channel 4 programme on Friday for the latest offering of television critics giving us their wisdom from their sofas.

One of the highlights of the show came from Stephen, 48, who revealed he doesn’t like to see people kissing, holding hands, or cuddling in public.

His comments left some viewers in hysterics, while others argued about whether public displays of affection (PDAs) really are unwelcome.

Dionne Yates posted: “I am so with you on the hand holding while walking down the street.”

Meanwhile Lizzie Randon-Partis wrote: “I’m with Stephen on that one! Plus it’s ruddy impossible to walk properly hanging on to someone.”

Rowena Coxwell said: “He is right about couples holding hands and cuddling walking along in public.

“Yesterday on the train, a couple next to me kept hugging and kissing and bumping up against me and the man even accidentally caressed my arm twice.”

Another Twitter user wrote: “I don’t like women who grip the arm of the man like they are trying to stop him running away. Meghan does it. Holding hands is just about acceptable.”

But one user was not happy, stating that Stephen’s anger at “snowflakes” was unfair. They posted: “Firstly, calling people who suffer with anxiety ‘snowflakes’ is NOT okay.

“Secondly, saying you purposely try to stop couples from showing affection to each other... as if it’s any of your business.”

Another said Stephen is “rude, nasty and not funny at all”.

Stephen’s new husband Daniel Lustig joined the Channel 4 programme in February this year, replacing Stephen’s mum Pat.

Previously Stephen had been accompanied by his ex-partner and fellow hairdresser Chris Butland-Steed, but he left the show after five years.

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9pm.
