A SOCIAL media star overcame her nerves to perform her best dance on Strictly so far.

Saffron Barker, 19, from Rottingdean, wowed the judges with her foxtrot.

She danced with partner AJ Pritchard and together they brought all the glamour of showbusiness to the tune of New York, New York by Frank Sinatra.

AJ wore a top hat and tails tuxedo with a white tie, while Saffron sparkled in a golden and silver dress.

Before the routine she admitted she was nervous about the use of a cane in the dance.

But afterwards, she was awarded a score of 38, with two 10s from judges and an impressive rating of 9 from Craig Revel-Horwood.

He said: “Your technique, I thought, was absolutely brilliant,”

Fellow judge Motsi Mabuse said: “This is a big, iconic song that needs a big personality to fill it in.

“I think you brought that and lived up to the song, it gave me the show, the beautiful technique and the music. It left me feeling that I had everything I needed at the end of the show.”

Shirley Ballas and Alfonso Ribeiro also praised her efforts.

Before the dance, Saffron told viewers how she has been training for several hours each day to perfect her routine.

She said: “This week we are dancing the foxtrot, which AJ says is one of the hardest dances. It is [about] mentally trying to stay focussed when you are working all day on one dance.

“Hearing the same song over and over, we can get a bit delirious. I’ve got back pains, bruises from the lifts and my feet are in agony, but I’m not going to lie, it is definitely all worth it.”

After her performance, Saffron, a popular YouTube star with more than four million fans, posted her shock and delight about her scores. She wrote: “What just happened? Top of the leaderboard, thanks to my incredible dance partner AJ.”
