SUSSEX will bask in some late October sunshine after being battered by weeks of washout weather.

Temperatures will hit 14C in the next few days as many parts of the country enjoy clear and sunny spells.

It will mark a stark contrast to the first half of the month where miserable weather has led to flood warnings over successive days.

The Met Office forecasts Sunday to be a largely sunny day with maximums of 14C and the chance of a few showers in the far southwest.

The drier conditions will then continue into Monday where outbreaks of rain will again give way to spells of fine weather and 14C highs.

Tuesday again will remain sunny with only the odd shower.

According to some longer term forecasts, the UK is set for a wet and stormy end to the year.

AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys said: "Many cities will receive above-normal rainfall this winter, including Brighton, Cardiff, London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast, but we are not calling for record-breaking rainfall.

"Through early January is going to be the most active.

"But there will be times in the later half of winter in which it will be on the quieter side, then get stormy for a couple of days, then transition back to a quieter period."
