SIMPLE Minds frontman Jim Kerr’s brother threatened to murder two superfans because of his “bitterness and hatred” of his sibling, a court heard.

Paul Kerr, 56, posted “pure and utter filth” about married couple John and Julie Fagan in a “relentless” hate campaign, jurors were told.

The former tour manager claimed Mr Fagan had asked him to harm his brother at a Stone Roses concert after calling one of the rock band’s albums “pure sh*t” on his Facebook page, it was alleged.

He repeatedly accused Mr Fagan of being a child rapist and called his wife obscene names after Mr Fagan agreed with Kerr on his page in January 2018, Lewes Crown Court heard.

Yesterday Julie Fagan, who married Mr Fagan in Jim Kerr’s Sicilian hotel in 2014, said: “A few days later John said to me ‘Paul Kerr has replied to my comment’ and he said it’s not good. He showed me and I couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“He put, ‘here is two Simple Minds fans trying to ask me to harm my brother at a Stone Roses concert’ or something.

“I think he’s gone and made a whole new post, just featuring around John, saying ‘here’s a Simple Minds superfan and he has asked me to harm my brother’.”

Describing what was said about her husband, she said: “Pure and utter filth and lies, filth, pure filth: calling him a rapist of a child.

“He found out that John was a nurse... he used to vary it but the bottom line was that he raped a nine-year-old boy and that he was on the run from Liverpool police.”

Of the abuse against her, she said: “Well basically: I’m a prostitute.”

She went on to describe obscene captions he had

posted with a photo of her wedding.

She said: “It is just disgusting and totally not true.

“I felt humiliated, I think revolted, I felt sick, absolutely sick.

“I kept thinking why would you react like that to people you don’t even know.

“The only thing I can think of is, because of the bitter dispute between himself and his brother – there’s a lot of bitterness and hatred.

“I think he saw me and John as being superfans and I think he saw there were photos of us and his brother and I think he thought he could get back at his brother by abusing us.”

Speaking behind a screen, Mrs Fagan, a care worker, referring to another post allegedly by Kerr, added: “He’s just called John a pig there, we are usually called pig whore or worse.”

She said she married her husband at the Hotel Villa Angela in Taormina, Sicily, Italy, in July 2014 and returned to Jim Kerr’s hotel every year since then.

Mr Fagan, who has been to 356 Simple Minds concerts in 35 years, last week told jurors: “He threatened to murder us, he threatened to cripple us, threatened us with a bat.”

Kerr, of Brighton, denies stalking the pair, of Canterbury, Kent, causing fear of violence at least twice between January and November last year.

He also denies stalking causing alarm or distress his ex Elizabeth Vanthof between April and November that year, who he claims conspired with the couple to frame him with fake Facebook profiles.

The trial continues.
