TAP dancers across Sussex are preparing to take part in a national attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

Marina Studios in Brighton is among those holding a “Tapathon” at midday on Sunday, November 17, to raise money for BBC Children In Need.

The dance studio in Mermaid Walk, is calling on members of the public to join in the bid to break the record for the largest tap dance, with dancers at venues across the country taking part at the same time.

Teacher India Phillips said: “We’re really excited to pair up with BBC Children In Need and The Performers Project for this event.

“We’re a charity ourselves and we’re always looking for ways to help other charities. It’s going to be a really fun day.”

The current world record for the largest tap dance held simultaneously at different venues is 7,596 people.

Organisers at The Performers Project, the events company behind the nationwide Tapathon, are hoping to break the world record with more than 10,000 tappers, who will dance to a choreographed routine to Out Of Our Heads by Take That.

Dancers of all ages and abilities are welcome at the Marina Studios Tapathon. You need to register by Friday – call India on 01273 253 679 or email info@marinastudios.co.uk.
