COUNCIL staff took a soggy stand to pressure authorities into fixing a dodgy drain.

Peacehaven Town Council staff took an unusual approach to solving the problem of a deep pool of water in the road.

Town clerk Tony Allen stripped to the waist and hopped into the water as he and civic and marketing officer Deborah Donovan held signs saying “East Sussex County Council Highways, where are you?”.

They shared an image of the protest on social media and it worked as East Sussex County Council quickly attended the puddle, at the junction of Greenwich Way and Meridian Way, Peacehaven, and fixed the drain.

An East Sussex County Council spokeswoman said: “When issues such as flooding to the highway are reported they will be investigated as soon as possible by our team and works to address the issue will be scheduled as appropriate.

“At this particular location third party fencing had been erected which initially blocked our access to the drain in question.

“However we were able to gain access over the weekend and this issue has now been cleared.”

A Peacehaven Town Council spokesman said: “Thanks very much, our residents are delighted.”
