A MAN who claims he found a metal pin in his sausage roll has vowed “never to shop at Greggs again”.

Paul Max, 59, said he was horrified to find the metallic object in his pastry last month.

Mr Max from Moulsecoomb, Brighton, bought four sausage rolls for friends from the city’s Western Road outlet on September 16.

But he said he was furious and concerned for public safety after finding a two inch object in the baked snack.

He is refusing £15 worth of free sausage rolls offered to him as compensation – instead demanding safety assurances from the bakery chain.

He said: “It’s very dangerous, if that’s stuck in your throat or your intestines that’s a major operation.

“I want people to be aware of the safety of the sausage rolls, this is not personal.”

Mr Max said he took the offending sausage roll back into the store the next day.

He then demanded that head office conduct an investigation to find out where the metal pin had come from.

Greggs later emailed Mr Max to tell him that an investigation had been completed and offered him £15 compensation.

But Mr Max is now calling on the company to provide assurances that pieces of metal, such as the one he claims he found in his sausage roll, will not find their way into other products.

Mr Max, who is not interested in compensation, said: “They told me they’ve done all they can and the case is closed.

“But they should do more.

“They’ve offered me £15 for free sausage roll.

“No thank you, I don’t want to use Greggs any more.

Mr Max added: “All I want is assurances and evidence that more robust measures are in place to prevent this happening again.”

A Greggs spokeswoman said: “Greggs takes all matters to do with food safety very seriously.

“We’ve informed the customer of the outcome of our investigation, and we’re really sorry that on this occasion he feels let down.”
