A 20-year-old man "with eyesight issues" has pleaded guilty to seriously injuring two police officers after he crashed a stolen car into them.

Jack Robson, of Littlehampton, West Sussex, entered guilty pleas to aggravated vehicle taking, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, burglary and going equipped for burglary.

He also pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court to driving a vehicle without a licence, without insurance and with uncorrected vision.

The charges relate to the theft by Robson of the keys to a Mercedes from a home in Littlehampton on September 22.

At about 1am the following day, he drove the stolen vehicle as it hit Pc Lisa Holt and Pc Tim Bradbury while they were on duty on the A259 in Littlehampton.

Pc Holt suffered a fractured knee and pubis, and Pc Bradbury sustained a fractured right arm, shoulder, leg and knee, a previous court hearing was told.

Another man, Stephen Nichols, was also hit and suffered a fractured spine, cuts to the back of his head and other cuts and bruises.

Thomas Wilkins, prosecuting, said: "Neither of the two officers is walking unaided, one is in a wheelchair and the other with crutches.

"The defendant has an issue with his eyesight. He drove straight into these pedestrians who were next to the police vehicle which had its lights on at the time."

Mr Wilkins said Robson had a previous conviction for aggravated vehicle taking and had been stopped the week before the incident for driving without a licence.

Gregory Fishwick, defending, said: "It seems custody is almost inevitable."

Judge David Melville QC adjourned the case for sentencing on December 12 and remanded Robson in custody.
