A LARGE number of police officers and vehicles have been seen stopping cars on a busy road.

Drivers were puzzled after seeing "six police cars" pulled up at the side of the A259 near Saltdean Lido.

Similar situations were seen at several other locations throughout the day.

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers had been taking part in an "all-encompassing road policing operation" targeting offences such as driving while disqualifiesd or uninsured, not wearing seatbelts, speeding and using mobile phones while at the wheel.

Sergeant Richard Hobbs of the roads policing unit said: "Today, me and some of my team worked with Brighton and Hove Police carrying out vehicle safety checks and speed enforcement as part of Operation Krypton in three different sites.

"There were some traffic offence reports issued and lots of advice.

"And we got some thanks from local residents."
