AN estate agent has apologised an advert for a one-bedroom apartment – with a toilet next to the bed.

Flat-hunters reacted with astonishment to a property in Guildford Road, Brighton, which was listed for rent at £1,000 per month.

Pictures posted to advertise the property showed the toilet less than two metres from the bed.

The room is described as having an “en suite wet room area”.

It is being rented through estate Mishon Mackay, which told The Argus: “We are aware we made an error on a property listing. This has now been amended and we are sorry for any confusion.”

Asked what the error was, the agent said: “It shouldn’t have been listed as an en suite.”

The spokeswoman said the building was still being refurbished.

One person, who wished to remain anonymous, came across it while browsing the Rightmove website.

It has since been removed from the website.

The person said: “It’s disgusting. I saw a listing for a flat in Brighton that charges £1,000 a month for a toilet in the same room as a bed.

“I just want this to be known because it’s unacceptable.”

The property, near Brighton Station, was listed online two days ago.

Shocked Twitter users have posted online about it.

One user, Alice Tew, said: “Sorry what? Imagine getting back to someone’s house to find this set-up.”

Another said: “I want the toilet even closer to the bed. How much will that cost?”

The advert comes after it was revealed eight in ten 18 to 40-year-olds living in Brighton fear they will never own their own home.

According to research by Wayhome,  46 per cent think they will be left paying off a mortgage for ever and 56 per cent fear they will always be trapped renting.

The Rightmove advert, before it was deleted, read: “Quality one bedroom apartment located close to Brighton mainline train station having recently been refurbished throughout being offered to let furnished and being available now.

“Located in central Brighton in a popular one way street is this lovely one-bedroom lower ground floor apartment with own street entrance.

“The property has been fully refurbished throughout by the current owner and consists of L shaped living/dining room.

“‘Location, location, location’ is something that will spring to mind when viewing this property, Western Road and the shopping mall are located within half a mile.

“For the commuters out there Brighton mainline train station is located at the bottom of the road.”
