POLICE have quizzed six men over the disappearance of a backpacker in Cambodia.

Amelia Bambridge, 21, has been missing from the Koh Rong island since Wednesday last week.

Her family from Worthing have flown out to help search for her, including her mum Linda, dad Phil, and brother Harry.

The AFP news agency has reported that as many as 200 army, navy and police personnel have scoured the island in the south of the country to find the former BHASVIC student.

The agency reported one senior police source in the search party as saying there is now "little hope" she will be found alive.

But police officially say no conclusion has been drawn.

Images previously revealed her last sighting, and her bag and phone was found on a popular beach for British travellers.

Six Cambodians, some of whom work in bars on the island, have been taken to police headquarters in a neighbouring province for questioning, police said.

The Argus:

“They are being questioned,” provincial deputy police chief Nop Panha said. “We are not drawing any conclusions yet.”

In contrast, one "senior" officer in the search party, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "We are looking for a body now."

Her brother Harry, who served as a paratrooper for four years, joined the search on Sunday but said the language barrier was causing problem.

"There is nothing making sense and something's not quite right," he said.

On the night Ms Bambridge disappeared, she had been with friends she had met at the hostel and they had gone to Police Beach - named after its proximity to a disused police station.

The Argus:

Friends reported her "out-of-character" disappearance after she did not return and her belongings were found on a beach.

Mr Bambridge said: "We were up at 06:00 and met with Cambodian police. We spent all day searching and wading through the jungle.

"We don't seem to be making any headway. We have got no leads to go off. I left my emotions on the plane. All I'm doing is concentrating on finding my sister."
