THE family of Amelia Bambridge is holding a vigil for the missing backpacker.

It will be held at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Hayling Rise, Worthing, on Wednesday evening at 8.30pm

Amelia’s sister, Sharon Schultes, has invited everyone to join the family in praying for the former Bhasvic student, who is missing in Cambodia.

Sharon, along with younger sister Georgie, want to thank the community for rallying around the family after Amelia disappeared from a beach party in Koh Rong last Wednesday.

Six Cambodians, some of whom work in bars on the island, have been taken to police headquarters in a neighbouring province for questioning, police said.

Sharon said: “We’re feeling overwhelmed by the support we have received - it has been amazing.

“Tomorrow is the vigil for Amelia, spread the word, everyone is welcome to come and light a candle.”

Efforts are taking place across Worthing and beyond to raise money for the family.

Collection boxes have been placed in the Tesco in Chapel Road and Anytime Fitness in Newland Road.

Amy Francis, from Moss Tattoos in Brighton Road, will be tattooing cows and cats - like Amelia has - on to fundraisers at a fundraiser on Friday at Thirteen Tattoo Co, also in Brighton Road.

And an “Urgent appeal to find Amelia”, organised by Sharon, has raised more than £13,000 from 727 people in four days.

All the money raised will go to paying for family flights to and from the country.

Amelia’s younger sister, Georgie, said: “My university (Liverpool university) is having a collection.
“We will be lighting candles at a service dedicated to her, which will have all the songs that she likes.”

Some family members have flown out to help search for her, including her mum Linda, dad Phil, and brother Harry.

The AFP news agency has reported that as many as 200 army, navy and police personnel have scoured the island in the south of the country to find Amelia.

They are searching the jungle, mountains, creeks, beaches and all the places Amelia had visited, enlisting help from their diving teams.

Images previously revealed her last sighting, and her bag and phone was found on a popular beach for British travellers.

Amelia is on a gap year and travelling alone for the first time. She was last seen by other travellers she had befriended at a beach party at 3am on Wednesday.

She was due to check out of her youth hostel at noon on Friday to leave the island later in the afternoon with a friend.

But ten hours later, at 10pm local time, her mother Linda was told by the hostel’s manager that her daughter had “been declared officially missing”.

Concerns have been raised that the 40-minute path from the beach party where Amelia was last seen on her way back to her youth hostel, the Nest Beach Club, was poorly lit.

Events and parties which had been organised for the holiday island have been called off as fellow backpackers assist police.
