A MAN was found hanging in a residential street garden.

Stephen Heenan, 65, was seen by onlookers hanging from a tree in a garden which backs on to Brooker Street in Hove.

They then reported the incident, which happened at 2pm last Saturday, to emergency services.

The tree is less than two metres from the street.

Emergency services arrived and declared the man dead about 20 minutes later.

Residents in the road told The Argus that the street was partly closed while emergency workers dealt with the incident.

Mr Heenan was also known by the name Steve the Viking.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to Brooker Street in Hove at 2pm on Saturday, October 26, to a report of a man self-harming in a garden.

“Sadly, paramedics declared the 65-year-old man to be deceased at 2.21pm.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been passed to the coroner’s officer.”
