SAFFRON Barker served up a spicy salsa on Saturday's episode of Strictly Come Dancing after pleading for support from her fans.

The 19-year-old star from Rottingdean impressed judges with an energetic, basketball-themed routine. Her dance partner AJ began by shooting a few hoops before limbering up to ‘Instruction’ by Jax Jones featuring Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don.

Initially, Saffron was in her element, but viewers said some of the lifts looked a little awkward. By the dance's close, some felt Saffron was out of her depth.

But the judges praised the pair's daring moves. Motsi Mabuse loved Saffron’s risk-taking and said the routine's opening was incredible, but felt she needed to keep the energy up throughout.

Judge Shirley Ballas thought it was a power-packed routine, but criticised Saffron’s hip rotation. Bruno wondered whether the pair's lifts were legal, but said the routine was "mental but fabulous", and Craig said that despite some dynamic moments, the dance lacked fluidity.

They gave the pair 6,7,7,7 – a total of 27.

Before the big night, Saffron had appealed to her followers for help, saying: "Please guys need the support more than ever."

On Twitter, fans praised the YouTuber.

One said: "I vote for you every week Saffron because you give 110 per cent".
