A MAN who had the proposed date for leaving the EU tattooed on his abdomen has revealed he was “absolutely devastated” when the move fell through.
Comedian Ruari Barratt, who moonlights as committed Brexiteer Graham Staines in some of his comedy routines, had a sizeable St George’s Cross inked on his abdomen alongside the words “B-Day 31.10.2019”.
He told The Argus the “B” stood for Brexit, Britain Boris and back off Brussels after having the permanent artwork daubed onto his skin at his home in Old Steine, Brighton.
But, when the day came and “Brexit day” was delayed, he was forced to re-think his body art.
Quizzed on what he will do next, the satirist revealed he would “get another one”.
He said: “Definitely a new, separate one.
“It’s hardly a very optimistic gesture otherwise.”
He also said that his original artwork would stay in place.
Joking as keen vote leave exponent Graham, his comedy persona, he said he has big plans to update the design for his second tattoo.
He said: “Obviously I’m going to take on board feedback from the comments online about the previous design.
“But I think, rather than write ‘b-day’ on this one I think I am going to go for independence day instead.
“And the English flag ruffled a few feathers.
“Some people pointed out that it is not just England in the UK so this time I think I am going to go for a Scottish flag.”
Ruari is part of spoof news network Hey News, which pokes fun at politics and issues in the Brighton area.
Previous stunts include creating a memorial to rapper Tupac Shakur in Lancing and running a fake bakery which created dead celebrities’ faces out of cake.
This was called Edgar Allan Dough.
There is a new Brexit extension until January 31.
It had previously been due to take place on March 29 but Theresa May’s withdrawal deal was rejected by MPs.
